Christmas Mania | DIY HOUSE LANTERNS

DIY Paper House Lanterns | Motte's Blog

Christmas could hardly be any closer; the tinsel is up, it smells of baked apples and homemade cookies, last-minute gifts are being wrapped and families are getting together.

Since it was my first time spending the pre-Christmas season in Berlin, I thought I’d share with you these house candle holders I made to brighten up the dark wintery nights...

DIY PAPER HOUSE LANTERNS:

On cardboard paper of your choice, create a template for a house with four sides, a floor and a one-sided roof. Don’t forget to elongate one side of the house and the sides of the floor to allow for some overlap and gluing.

For inspiration or guidance, you can check out one of my templates here.

Cut out the template with scissors and the windows with a cutter. (I also used a ruler for guidance.) Add transparent paper to the back to create a warm glow and fold up all the corners. Glue the sides together where needed.

Place a tea light inside and let your little village come to life!

For safety’s sake, however, I recommend using battery operated votives inside the paper houses. Now, I have never been a fan of LED candles and have always refused to buy them, but this project really gave me no other choice. And to be honest, they don’t actually look too bad when the lights are turned off.

But they still look terrible in daylight.

Plus, they flicker way too much.

You ain’t fooling no one!

But, safety first…

May your days be merry and bright!
