DIY POM POM BOOKMARKS

DIY Pom Pom Bookmarks | Motte's Blog

Hi, my name is Motte and I am a pom pom addict.

It's true, ever since crafting this DIY pom pom tree, I have become obsessed with making these darling little fluff-balls.

It all started when I noticed all of the left-over yarn that didn't make it into my latest project, but needed a purpose in life. But I quickly noticed that there was more to it. The soft strings of yarn caressing my fingers just felt so darn... good. Carefully looping them around and around, I quickly learned the easiest way to make handfuls in seconds flat.

The pom poms kept me company while watching my favorite tv shows, happily greeted my friends during some of my picnics on the floor, rolled around the floor blissfully playing with the cat...
Oh wait. I don't have a cat...

So, sure, you can call it an obsession. But you could also call it productivity, or creative self-expression or something like that... or just a way to pass the time.

I didn't notice I have a problem until my sister pointed out the increased number of times I had to vacuum in order to remove all the fluff that had been piling up in the corners.

Ok, in all earnest, I just got a little carried away. I had too much yarn, and too much time on my hands, and before I had time to blink, or even think for a second, I had too many darn pom poms.

What can I say? They are super easy to make, are done in a flash, look absolutely adorable, and I now found the perfect purpose for them, too.

Bookmarks!

If this ain't cute, I don't know what is.

You can make them big or small. Use color coordination to mark your favorite chapters; the grim beginning, the joyous middle bit, the love affair, the betrayal, the bitter end.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

- colorful yarn
- scissors
- paper clips
- adhesive

Check out the tutorial on how to make pom poms here

As I was making tiny pom poms, I wrapped the yarn around my thumb instead of a fork. Experiment with different objects for different-sized pom poms.

After sliding off the looped yarn from your finger, carefully wrap around a piece of yarn, knotting tightly so that the yarn is bunched together.

Cut the loops, and trim the pom pom to give it a circular shape.

Using the two strands of yarn previously wrapped around the bunch, tie a double knot around the end of a paper clip and as close to the pom pom as possible. Cut off the ends close to the knot. Add a drop of glue for extra security.
